Can Mindfulness Change Your Life?

can mindfulness change your life

My most favorite memories of my time on the island are morning walks on the beach with my Labrador Retriever Pearl. We were never more present than during these times, both with each other and with nature. Pearl would carefully select a seashell to add to her collection. Each shell represented a day well spent. Animals are amazing teachers of energy. They live and love each day to its fullest -always.

I know, you are wondering what does mindfulness have to do with Feng Shui? I was asked to guest author a chapter in an upcoming book Holistic Mental Health. For my chapter, I shared the practice of intuitively connecting to your home. Introduce yourself to your home and allow it to introduce itself to you.

To do this you must get into your body, calm your mind and be stilly present. Feel the energy of the room. Notice how it makes you feel. Think about what you want to do in that room and how you want it to make you feel. Each space wants to be something. You just have to connect with your home energetically and listen to what it is telling you.

When I explain Feng Shui, I usually start here. You are energy. Your home is energy. How the two interact together is where the magic happens. Use your intentions to co-create a sanctuary from the world we live in today. You can feel instant respite from the world in a well feng shuied home.

Mindfulness improves anxiety, grief and insomnia.

If you are truly present in the now, you can’t be worrying about tomorrow or looking back to yesterday. When I am anxious I bring myself back to the now. Am I safe right now? Do I have everything I need in this moment? How can I calm my nervous system down?

Anxiety is your brain’s attempt to protect you. Instead, it creates harm by making you anxious and producing stress in your body. Sometimes, we have to talk to our subconscious brain and nervous system and tell them that they are okay in this moment. They are safe. You are safe. Guided meditations or sound baths are an amazing easy way to do this.

That Nich Hanh, the great author and Buddhist monk, taught that we can be mindful doing anything-even the dishes. Choose a scented dish soap that you love and take pride in each dish you clean. Mindfulness in nothing fancy. It is just being fully present in all that you do. Being mindful will amplify your gratitude and ability to manifest in a powerful way.

Go create your peace darling. You deserve it.
