Intuition is a form of knowledge that comes from the subconscious mind into the conscious mind. It can arrive quickly, without awareness of the underlying mental processing of information. Often much of the information that we take in is registered in our brain without our conscious awareness. Have you ever turned down a street because it is part of your normal daily drive even if you weren’t going to work that day? This is the brain’s subconscious at work without your awareness. Eventually, you realize that you turned on the wrong street. The brain is mysterious and complex. Science has found intuition to enhance decision-making greatly.
What goes hand in hand with intuition is intentional reflection. A quiet mind is a receptive mind. Meditation is a great way to harvest intuition. Many people fear tackling meditation because they feel it requires sitting in silence for hours with a clear mind. This is not the case. I love guided meditations because they do the work for you. Walking in nature is a great way to ground and meditate. Some prefer to recite mantras during meditation. Mantras function as a babysitter for the conscious brain per se. They keep it busy so that your subconscious thoughts can come through to your awareness. Highly skilled meditators like monks can sit in silence. Essentially, the purpose of meditation is to quiet the conscious mind so that the unconscious mind can speak to you. There is a vast amount of information in your brain that can only be accessed through the subconscious aspect.
The last part of intuition that is so critical for us humans is to actually trust what it is telling us and act on it. The logical, rational, conscious brain is the enemy of intuition. It houses our ego fear and it will override what we often know to be the right decision. The ego often thinks it is protecting you but in reality, it can hold you to patterns that no longer serve your life. You must differentiate between the conscious brain and your deeper intuition. How do you feel in your body when you think about a certain decision or outcome? Does your body tense up or does it relax and feel at peace? If you feel peace in your body, your intuition has spoken to you. Have the courage to take action.
